Write your own story book - 2 story book templates attached

(0)
Every week, I have children in my class who love to write their own stories. At the moment, it’s mainly the girls BUT the boys are starting too! To promote and celebrate the love of story writing, I’ve created a blank story book template for children to complete. I always leave around 20 of these blank book templates in my ‘Author’s lounge’ so that they are readily available for all budding story writers. Just print off the relevant template (KS1 or KS2) and staple the books together. The KS1 book template contains 10 writing pages plus a front and back cover. On each writing page, there is space to draw a picture too. The KS2 book template contains 16 writing pages and a front and back cover. On every other page, there is space to draw a picture. It’s amazing to see the children’s faces light up every time someone mentions their book being displayed in the ‘Author’s lounge’. I use the KS1 book template with my current Year 2 class and they love it. They write stories about unicorns, princesses, frogs, heroes etc. The KS2 book template is adapted to attract older writers and is currently being trialled with a Year 5 class. 2 book templates attached - fully editable.

Ideal for 6+ Instructions: Introduce onomatopoeia ‘sound words’ by watching the video. Show the children the onomatopoeia words listed on page 1 of the 4-page activity booklet. Give some examples of onomatopoeia words you might hear in certain jobs - there are a number of jobs listed in the booklet (with examples and pictures). Ask the children to have a go at drawing the sound words listed in the activity booklet then ask them to add one more word (and drawing) of their own. Challenge Activity: You might want the class (or a group of children) to perform their own onomatopoeia poem/song in the style of the video. If you do, I’ve also attached a simple rhythm/beat your children to listen and perform their poem/song to (plus a sheet for them to publish their work onto).
